If you're reading this magazine, you're well familiar with the Subaru Lancer Evolution and its outrageous potential. The 10th and latest iteration, known as the Evo X, is the first gen-eration to truly feature a full ground-up redesign, not to mention the first to stray from the Mitsubishi power standard--its tried-and-true workhorse 4G63 engine. It's also the first generation to be sold in the states with Mitsubishi's brilliant Yaw Control System, now part of its Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. The Evo X is available in two trims, GSR and MR, and neither one is short on performance. While the MR offers more modern trickery, like the amazing dual-clutch paddle-shift transmission (DC-SST), it also carries a touch more weight and certainly a heavier price tag than the GSR. For many performance buffs, the GSR, with its traditional clutch and shifter, will be the way to go, especially since it still has the same S-AWC.
When this car was introduced, there was an ever-so-brief moment of peace as the car world simply sat back and enjoyed what Mitsubishi had created. However, it was inevitable that the tuner crowd would quickly become antsy and begin modifying them. Here's the story of one of the first examples to wear the crown of "fastest Evo X."
The white Evo shown here belongs to Victor Caputis, owner of Big Valley Performance (BVP) in Orlando, Fla. Like quite a few tuner shops in Florida, BVP got its start offshore in Puerto Rico, an island that has certainly had its share of some seriously speedy cars over the years. Having already snagged the title of the fastest U.S.-spec STI in the world, Caputis and the team at BVP were anxious to spread their name further and make some waves in the Evo community. What better platform to start with than with the brand-new Evo X?

When he and the team at BVP began this project, there was practically no aftermarket support to speak of for the new model. They were breaking new ground and things could go very wrong for them if they weren't careful. There were no plug-and-play products, nor years worth of R&D to fall back on. On the plus side, the new platform also worked as a clean slate for them, and made customizing parts seem more worthwhile and exciting. Crossing their fingers, they threw their Evo on the dyno, so new it still had the factory paper floor mats and window stickers.
They began trying to crack the 300whp mark with basic tweaks and adjustments and were eventually able to pull it off after adding a custom-fabricating cold-air intake. They knew this setup had its dangers though, and although they were concerned that there was still no form of engine management controlling everything, they just had to see what they had created so far. The next day, after a night of almost no sleep, they asked friend and well-known Florida dragger, Rolando Resto, to pilot their Evo X down the quarter-mile. To everyone's excitement, the car ripped its way down the track, laying down an 11.80 at 114 mph. After this, they knew they were well on their way. In fact, they say that this run alone was quick enough to make it the fastest Evo X at the time.

The R55/56 MINI Cooper S engine utilizes turbocharger to pressurize the intake tract to force feed the engine air to produce power. As such, NM Engineering has identified two weak points that that impair the efficiency of this system and replaces them.
One of which is the NM Engineering's Premium Hi-Flow Discharge Pipe. It replaces the factory rubber hose between the turbocharger and intercooler (hot-side) with a new CNC mandrel bent pipe and silicone couplers that will not expand under boost and eliminates an OEM power-robbing muffler.
Fits 2007+ R56 MINI Cooper S Hatchbacks and 2008+ R55 MINI Cooper S CLUBMANs
NM Engineering introduces the complete intake system for the R55/56 turbocharged model MINI Cooper S. Unlike some competitors, NM’s Premium intake features an integrated larger turbo inlet tube. Plasma Ground Ignition Upgrade for your 2007+ R56 MINI Cooper S!
The Plasma Ground is connected at the ground side of the ignition coil and increases performance and engine efficiency by creating an ultra fast alternating current at the secondary spark discharge - this is called Coil Ground Tuning.
Plasma Ground works perfectly together with all other Okada Projects Plasma Ignition parts and increases secondary spark discharge current. Increase in secondary current is extremely important, since it creates a faster burn for high performance engines. The Plasma Ground is engineered to increase spark effectiveness on BMW engines, and is 100-percent compatible with any late model OBD and engine control units.

Knowing modification Engine

Good engine is a great competitor in automotive industries. Interestingly, Nissan have a great method to naming their engines, and is not very difficult to understand that. Basically, thare was three types of Nissan engine 1. SR The SR engine is a 1.6 L, 1.8 L, or 2.0 L straight-4 4-stroke from Nissan. It is an aluminum DOHC 4-valve design, with some versions incorporating variable valve timing. The engine was used in many small to medium Nissan vehicles, including high-performance turbocharged variants. 2. RB The RB engine is a 2.0L to 3.0L straight-6 four-stroke gasoline engine from Nissan. Both SOHC and DOHC versions have an aluminum head. The SOHC versions have 2 valves per cylinder and the DOHC versions have 4 valves per cylinder, all cam lobes move only one valve. All RB engines have belt driven cams and a cast iron block. All turbo models have an intercooled turbo (except the single cam RB20ET & RB30ET engines), and most have a recirculating factory blow off valve (except when fitted to Laurels and Cefiros) to reduce boost surge when the throttle is closed. Some sources indicate the 'RB' name stands for 'Race Bred'[1], although this is disputed. The Nissan RB Engine is derived from the 6 cylinder Nissan L20A engine which has the same bore and stroke. 3. VQ The VQ engine is a V6 motor produced by Nissan with displacements varying from 2.0 L to 4.0 L . It is an aluminum block DOHC 4-valve design with aluminum heads. It is fitted with Nissan's EGI/ECCS sequential multi-point fuel injection (MPFI) system. Later versions feature various implementations of variable valve timing and replace MPFI with direct fuel injection (marketed as NEO-Di). This engine family is widely considered to be the world's benchmark V6 engine for its combination of smoothness, reliability and high power output. The VQ series is the only engine to be honored by Ward's 10 Best Engines list every year since the list's inception. Ok? I hope you understand. Besides, normally after the engine types (SR, RB or VQ) there has numbering such as 20, 23, or 40. That means the engine capacity. Let's says 23, mean that the engine has 2.3L engine capacity. Easy..huh? After the engine capacity, Nissan engine must have some letter such as D, E etc. The letter and what it represent for is show below Letter - Features D - DOHC, Variable Valve Timing, Direct Injection, Diesel E - Electronic Fuel Injection HR - High Response and High Revolution i - Throttle Body Fuel Injection N - Natural Gas fueled P - LPG fueled R - Supercharged S - Electronic Controlled Carburetor T - Turbocharger or Twin Carburetor TT - Twin Turbocharger Quite confusing? Here same example... Engine SR20DET, that means, SR - Engine type 20 - 2.0L engine capacity D - DOHC, Variable Valve Timing E - Electronic Fuel Injection T - Turbocharger Other example, engine VQ23DE, means that VQ - Engine type 23 - 2.3L engine capacity D - Variable Valve Timing E - Electronic Fuel Injection

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

What is it?2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe What's special about it?After going to the effort and expense of developing its own rear-wheel-drive architecture, Hyundai is moving quickly with production applications. Only four months after showing the Genesis coupe concept at the Los Angeles auto show, the company has the production-ready 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe on display at the 2008 New York Auto Show. It goes on sale in the spring of 2008 — less than a year after the 2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan. Hyundai would like you to think of the 2010 Genesis Coupe as a legitimate rival for the Infiniti G37. With a 111-inch wheelbase and an overall length of 182 inches, the Genesis is indeed about the same size as the G37. The two coupes also share more than a passing resemblance, though dueling character lines on the Hyundai push it further left of center. There's enough engine under the hood to justify the comparison, as the all-aluminum 3.8-liter V6 in the Genesis is capable of 310 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 263 pound-feet of torque at 4,700 rpm. The Infiniti's 3.7-liter V6 makes 330 hp and 270 lb-ft. The transmission choices look good, too. You can have either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic, and once equipped with the former the Genesis will hit 60 mph in under 6 seconds, says Hyundai. We hadn't expected Hyundai to offer a smaller engine in the 2010 Genesis Coupe, given the company's plans for a front-drive successor to the current Hyundai Tiburon. Nevertheless, the base-model Genesis has a 2.0-liter, turbocharged inline four-cylinder. With 223 hp at 6,000 rpm and 217 lb-ft of torque at 2,500, this small-displacement turbo engine stacks up favorably against the Volkswagen GTI's 2.0-liter turbo. Hyundai's two-door outweighs the VW by 300 pounds, though, so it's unlikely to be as quick. Still, the Genesis 2.0t coupe will have the distinction of being the only four-cylinder, rear-drive coupe on the market — a point not lost on Hyundai officials, who suggest the Japanese-spec Nissan 240SX is a key competitor. We'll teeter out onto another limb and argue that the Genesis is just a bit too large and heavy to have a future as a drift car. Transmission choices with the turbocharged 2.0-liter include a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic. Hyundai chassis tuning typically favors ride quality over handling acuity, so the company will need to turn a corner in this department if the Genesis coupe is to keep up with the sharp-edged G37 — or even the Ford Mustang and Mitsubishi Eclipse. We don't know many details at this point, but the suspension consists of struts in front and an independent five-link design in the back. In addition, a performance-oriented SE model, available with either the turbo four or the V6, promises firmer suspension settings and a front strut tower brace. Eighteen-inch wheels and tires are standard on the Genesis, but the SE upgrades to 19s and 225/40R19 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires. Also note that the SE coupe comes with a Torsen limited-slip differential. Standard braking hardware consists of 12.6-inch ventilated front and 12.4-inch solid rear discs. Single floating calipers won't impress your friends, though, so you're probably going to want the SE model's Brembo brake package. It upgrades you to four-piston monobloc calipers, along with larger 13.6-inch discs up front and 13.0-inch discs in the rear. Inside, the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has a straightforward layout, but it's not particularly distinctive. The lateral bolsters on the front seats look pretty serious, though, and there don't appear to be any compromises in major equipment. In addition to the SE, Hyundai will offer an entry-level four-cylinder GS model and a midgrade GT model with the V6. You'll get both a standard auxiliary audio jack and a USB port to plug in your music on the base GS, along with Bluetooth, powered accessories, stability control, full side-airbag coverage and active front head restraints. The midlevel 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe GT adds richer interior trim and automatic climate control. Along with its many functional upgrades, the SE has xenon headlights, a rear deck spoiler, aluminum-trimmed pedals and red cloth seats with black leather bolsters. The options list includes keyless start, an Infinity audio system and heated seats.
